New woods from Prosono

I receive new wood stock from Prosono (South Africa).
The mill manager, Philippe, is really a friendly guy and very nice to do business with him.
I am quite sure I will be purchasing more woods from him.

For this batch of wood I got some African Blackwood, Pink Ivory and Chacate.
All of them are top notch wood (straight grain) especially the ABW which is really amazing.
I also take the opportunity to get some fingerboard.
African woods are really dense and mostly stable great candidate for fingerboard.

Chacate - another dense wood. Look at how straight the grain is!

African Blackwood.
Another amazingly straight grain set which is very rare for ABW.
Even then flatsawn ABW is very very stable.

ABW fingerboard. 3 of them are straight grain while 2 are flatsawn.
All of them looks great!

New Lutz Spruce bracing!

I ordered some more new Lutz spruce bracing and 2 new tops from High Mountain Tonewood.
Both the tops' tap tone are really good!
Now I have more bracing blank to work with since I usually split the braces so there are a lot more wastage.
The fan braces will need the higher quality stuff while the LTB and UTB I will use the lighter Englemann as they are more massive.

I ordered some tops from FV finewoods (Canada) and the surface shipping took quite sometime to arrive.
The Englemann Spruce looks very good and are very light.
I also bought some violin top and back and a Maple neck blank.

New Lutz Spruce!

I received my new batch of Lutz Spruce from Shane of High Mountain Tonewoods.
Sadly he will no longer be doing the supplier business.
Anyway he has found someone to take over the business hopefully the successor will be just as good to deal with.
So far I just inspected one top and it looked very promising.
Need to inspect more and weigh it in order to find out more about the top.

Reorganise My Wood Storage

During the yearly spring cleaning, I re-organised my woods on the rack.
Well one thing is I have been showing the woods to a number of visitors to my workshop, it's kind of difficult to always climb up ad down if I put my woods all on the top rack.
So I decided to shift the woods down by one.
The side woods are still on the top rack though and I took the chance to match the sides to the back.
In case I forgotten which side matches which back
Anyway here's the result :)

I got some more new back and sides.
2 more sets of CSA RW and 1 set of Panama RW and 1 set of Southeast Asia RW.
The CSA RW are really nice and smells great with beautiful spider webbing.

Malaysia Blackwood - nice spider webbing but the tap tone is abit dull. Well it's an ebony cant expect much.

Amzn RW. The tap tone is incredible! Sustain like mad!

Honduran RW, the tap tone is very high pitch

CSA RW the smell is great, but tap tone is only mediocre.

MadRW, has the best tap tone amongst them.

New Zoot!

I saw this Amzn RW that I like alot, but it very expensive.
After much consideration I decided to get it and I never regret that decision.
When the wood came it's really beautiful.
Amzn RW is from Brazil and very close to the famous BRW , but it's slightly denser that the cousin.
However it doesn't have that sweet smell of BRW.
I also got some MadRW bridge blank and they tap like glass.
I saw this one with beautiful ink lines which I like alot.

Some more new wood stock...

Well I have the ZAS or WAS (Zoot/Wood Acquisition Syndrome).
I just could not stop myself from getting more wood.
What did I get this time round?
Some Osage Orange, IRW, and HRW.
Osage Orange is commonly used for making bows.
It is a very dense wood and a "drop-in" replacement for the famous BRW according to Alan Carruth.
Well since I can't get BRW so I might as well get a the nearest replacement.
The IRW I got was premium set dark and straight grain.
HRW is by far the most dense wood I have in my collection.

Some more new wood stock!

Well I managed to acquire some more new back and sides woods for my collection :)
I know I know I have the illness(ZAS)... Zoot Acquisition Syndrome but I couldn't resist it...

I managed to get a lovely Ziricote and Waterfall Bubinga.
Haven't decide what use for them but certainly they will be used for classical guitars; at least for now.

The Osage Orange is still on the way from RC Tonewoods while the IRW has arrived, beautiful set!
